Django Projects

Thanks, James, for giving me a heads-up about National Blog Posting Month. It’s unfortunate that I heard about it with just one hour left on November 1, but I’ll give it a shot.

In the spirit of Malcolm’s TODO list (sorry, can’t find the link offhand), I thought I’d outline a few things I’m currently thinking about and/or working on for Django in the near future. This probably isn’t complete, but it’s something to get down on “paper” while I work a bit more on them.

• dbsettings
• django-modular
• Pluggable File storage including several backends
• DurationField for storing lengths of time
• django-offline, integrating Django with Google Gears
• A better way to handle Many-to-Many relationships with additional columns
• A more flexible way to resolve URLs, which would help newforms-admin a bit as well
• An AudioField extending FileField

I’ll flesh these out over the next several posts, since I need stuff to write about this month anyway. I’ll probably have more to add that I’m not thinking of at the moment, but it’s late and I’m just trying to get these out of my head at the moment.
